Wednesday, August 15 – Asia Session Recap

During the Asia-Pacific session, antipodeans remained pressured by weakness in commodities due to ongoing concerns surrounding Turkey. Copper is currently down 1.34% on the day and gold is down 0.4% on the day.

According to Reuters, Turkey has doubled tariffs on US imports including cars, tobacco and alcohol. Turkey’s vice president stated the announcement was in response to deliberate US attacks on the Turkish economy.

Alongside weakness in antipodeans, the ongoing concerns have continued to support USD. As such, AUDUSD and NZDUSD have continued to print fresh session lows with the former falling just shy of the 0.72 handle.
