What is the Myanmar Kyat (MMK)?

The Myanmar kyat or Burmese kyat is the currency for Myanmar, formerly known as Burma and is still recognized as Burma by some countries.

The currency code for Myanmar kyat is MMK. The currency symbol used is K.

The first kyat was seen in 1852 and was replaced by the Indian rupee in 1889. There was a short period between 1943-1945 when the Japanese introduced the second kyat until it was replaced once again by the rupee. In 1952 the current Myanmar kyat was introduced.
